Abstract

Ecotourism management in tourism villages located within coastal buffer zones requires an approach that balances community welfare, environmental sustainability, and tourism business viability. This article reviews ecotourism management models based on the Community-Based Tourism (CBT) approach that can be adapted to tourism villages in the buffer area of Kuta Mandalika Beach. A systematic literature review was conducted to examine best practices in tourism village management in Indonesia. The study identifies key components and guiding principles for designing an effective CBT-based ecotourism management model. The findings indicate that the most effective model involves four main components: strong local institutions, broad community participation, comprehensive implementation of CBT dimensions, and integrated ecological conservation in all tourism activities. The ideal model for tourism villages in the Kuta Mandalika buffer zone is a community-centered coastal and customary ecotourism model, developed gradually and supported by clear local regulations and multi-stakeholder partnerships to ensure long-term sustainability.
